Gili’s marine grade mesh typically comes in solid colored rolls that are 100 yards long. Occasionally there are leftover spools of new vinyl threads, which in the past were disposed of, but now added to the weaving machine at random. The colors change multiple times throughout the rolls depending on which colors are woven in. This upcycling process makes each product one-of a kind, as no two bags are exactly alike. The fun random color combinations are very attractive, as well as something we can all feel good about, choosing and using a sustainable option. Below is an example of the colors changing mid-roll.
The breathable mesh fabric is made from vinyl-coated polyester yarn, which offers excellent performance in use outdoors and against the elements. It is infused with Microban® antimicrobial protection, which keeps the fabric cleaner for longer. It does this by inhibiting the growth of stain and odor-causing bacteria, mold, and mildew. The material also makes all Gili gear easy to maintain, just by washing with soap and water or using a water/bleach solution to clean(mind the webbing). A pressure washer has been used when lazy and that also seems to do the trick.
The mesh is GREENGUARD certified, which means it has met the world's most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emmissions of volatile organic compounds into the indoor air for health and safety. On a side note, the material is also lead free and flame retardant (not fireproof).
